Why won't my garage door opener work?
What’s likely going on
A dead remote battery is the most common and simplest cause. Beyond that, garage door openers have a safety sensor near the floor on each side of the door — if that sensor is dirty, misaligned, or blocked, the opener will refuse to close the door at all as a safety feature.
Is this a DIY job or worth calling someone?
Checking the remote battery and making sure nothing's blocking the sensors (and that they're aligned with each other) is safe and often the whole fix. The springs and cables that actually lift the door carry serious tension — that part is genuinely not a DIY repair, for real safety reasons.
Not sure, or ready to have someone take care of it?
