Why won't my door close or latch properly anymore?

What’s likely going on

Homes settle over time, which shifts door frames just enough that the latch no longer lines up with the strike plate the way it used to. Humidity and seasonal wood swelling can cause the same thing to come and go throughout the year.

Is this a DIY job or worth calling someone?

Sometimes a small adjustment to the strike plate is all it needs, and that's a reasonable project if you're comfortable with a screwdriver. A door that's dragging on the frame or clearly sagging usually means the hinges need real adjustment, which is worth having someone experienced handle.

Not sure, or ready to have someone take care of it?
