Why does water pool in my yard after it rains and take days to drain?
What’s likely going on
Compacted or poorly graded soil is the most common cause — water simply has nowhere to go because the ground around it doesn't slope away the way it should, or the soil itself is too dense to absorb it.
Is this a DIY job or worth calling someone?
Not an emergency, but worth addressing before it becomes a mosquito problem in warm weather or starts affecting nearby structures. Regrading is a real job that benefits from someone who can assess the whole yard's drainage, not just the one wet spot.
