Why did my light switch stop working?
What’s likely going on
Switches wear out mechanically after years of use — the internal contacts stop making a clean connection. It can also be the bulb or fixture itself rather than the switch, which is worth ruling out first.
Is this a DIY job or worth calling someone?
Testing with a bulb you know works is a safe first step. Replacing a simple switch is a common DIY project for people comfortable working with a breaker turned off — but if you're not confident doing that safely, there's no downside to having someone else handle it.
