Why does my refrigerator still smell after I've cleaned it?

What’s likely going on

Odors often hide in spots an ordinary wipe-down misses — door gaskets, the drain pan underneath, or inside the drawers' tracks — where spills and residue collect out of sight.

Is this a DIY job or worth calling someone?

A full clean including gaskets and drawer tracks, plus an open box of baking soda for a few days, resolves most lingering odors. A smell that persists despite a thorough clean is worth mentioning to whoever services the unit, since it can occasionally point to something mechanical.
